However, the WPA will accept members at any time without penalty. Membership Form Background and goals for this circuit:
The Wisconsin Pork Association is sponsoring an
opportunity to showcase Wisconsin’s youth and swine through a show
circuit. Wisconsin’s producers have
prided themselves on maintaining quality swine herds in light of the
industry challenges. Many youth
have rejuvenated the interest in showing swine over the last few years
especially as the in-state health regulations have provided more
flexibility. Through a show
circuit, WPA could connect young producers with established breeders in
Wisconsin to continue Wisconsin’s reputation for quality breeding stock.
WPA's main goal is to provide junior swine exhibitors
the opportunity to further their development of citizenship, leadership,
and sportsmanship. The idea behind the junior show circuit is to
reward the junior members for the hard work and dedication they give to
their swine projects. We hope to also provide exhibitors guidance in
showmanship, selection and project management.
The open circuit would allow producers and children too
young for the youth division the opportunity to show their pigs. Each family membership of WPA would be
eligible to enter pigs in the open circuit. This will allow breeders and families to enter pigs in the
open show format at any WPA sanctioned show. The goal is to emphasize Wisconsin’s quality home grown
breeding and market stock.
For many families around the state, livestock provides a
media for youth to connect with their families, practice sound management
and make future connections. In the
future we hope to send Wisconsin youth delegations to exhibit at the NJSA
or CPS National Junior Shows, and promote Wisconsin breeders, their sales,
and support the swine industry of Wisconsin.
All participants that choose to be tracked for the show
circuit must be paid members of the Wisconsin Pork Association by May 1st
of the show year in order earn points for the entire show season.
Open
– producer members – active dues of $50 per farm. Youth – general dues per family of $25 (includes one youth
member) and additional $5 per sibling.
No points will be accumulated prior to paying the membership dues.
However, WPA will accept members at any time without penalty. Youth not eligible for the youth
showmanship awards within WPA, may show gilts and barrows under the
family’s farm name. Both pigs and
youth will be tracked for recognition purposes.
